Sticky Smoked Tempeh

Struggling to find a recipe where tempeh doesn’t taste like total a**? (no offence to those rare breed tempeh lovers out there, you should be proud!)…

I was too - until I found sticky smoked tempeh. So if you’re like this gal and haven’t found any tempeh recipes you’re into, give it one last go! If it’s a fail, accept defeat and embrace all the other awesome plant-based protein options out there 😂

What you’ll need:

- 1 block of tempeh

- 3 Tbsp soy sauce

- 3 Tbsp maple syrup

- 1/2 Tbsp smoked paprika

- 1/2 tsp garlic powder

- 3 Tbsp water in a small bowl

How to do it:

- Pat tempeh dry and cut into 1/4 inch slices

- Heat oil in a large pan over medium-high hear, fry tempeh for 2-3 minutes, until crispy, then flip and repeat on other side

- Make the smoked tempeh sauce by combining remaining ingredients in a small bowl

- Pour the sauce into the pan with the fried tempeh and lower heat to low-medium, cook for another 5 minutes or until the sauce becomes sticky and is coating the tempeh strips, turning the strips frequently

Ideas of what to add it to:

- Caesar salad with crispy chickpeas

- Eggs or tofu scramble with some toast

- Dice it up into Alfredo pasta
